Congress' Question: Should The Government Be Prosecuted For Encouraging Suicide Or Not?

31 Ashad, Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has demanded that Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal rule Prime Minister Balen Shah to answer questions from lawmakers.

Opposition parties rose as soon as the House of Representatives meeting began on Wednesday. The Speaker then gave time to Congress MP Geeta Gurung to speak.

She demanded that the Speaker rule, saying that they have been continuously asking Prime Minister Balen questions but have not received an answer.

"The search for a respected Prime Minister is ongoing in Parliament. The House of Representatives Rules have made the Prime Minister accountable to Parliament. Therefore, I demand a ruling through the Speaker to allow the Prime Minister to appear in the House and answer the questions of the MPs," she said.

She said that since the Prime Minister is a representative of the young generation, youth across the country have great expectations from him.

"The trust in you is not just trust in an individual, but trust in the young leadership," she said. "We all expected you to provide leadership that is different from the old political style, but today we have to say it with sadness."

Stating that hope in the government is gradually turning into disappointment, she said that the incidents happening in the country day by day are increasing disappointment rather than hope.

"When questions arise, trying to cover them up with stunts and divert the subject has become an old style for the government," she said. "When questions arise about the assets of ministers, a bulldozer was used in the slums."

Noting that the Prime Minister and ministers were amused when the then Secretary Krishna Hari Pushkar was arrested, she added, "When the place where squatters were kept in Kirtipur was flooded, people were in distress and there was a lot of commotion. Meanwhile, while 3 incidents of self-immolation occurred in Tripureshwor Buddhanagar and Sarlahi, now there is a car parked in front of the media gate and the residence of Gagan Kumar Thapa, the president of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress."

Presenting some representative examples, she said that the government is adept at changing the subject.

She said that while discussing the plight of the squatters, she remembered the Prime Minister's statement from the rostrum of Parliament.
