The Nepal government is preparing to establish a powerful "PM Delivery Unit" under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to monitor, review, and coordinate the execution of key national commitments.

Scheduled to begin operations on July 17, the unit will oversee the implementation of an 18-point national commitment letter, which integrates the ruling coalition's reform agendas, too. Led by a joint secretary, the unit will comprise representatives from ministries including infrastructure, finance, energy, and agriculture, with provisions to consult external subject experts.

"A gap often exists between policy formulation and execution. The PM Delivery Unit will work to bridge this implementation gap," said Hemraj Aryal, the spokesperson for the PM’s Office. "It will monitor strategic and national pride projects to eliminate administrative delays and boost capital expenditure."

Functioning under a high-level steering committee led by Chief Secretary Govinda Karki, the unit will also streamline inter-agency coordination and resolve policy disputes across federal, provincial, and local levels.

This high-powered administrative structure, modeled after successful frameworks in the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Rwanda, marks a historical milestone in Nepal's administrative history, aiming to significantly enhance accountability and results-oriented governance.
